what a fantastic castle! but how scary is it! - me and my hubby and out 2 children visited while away in Dolwyddelan - its quite a walk up to the castle - not for people hard of walking - a stunning sight - the steps leading up/into the castle are very steep and a little worrying for children - once inside very quiet pretty dark but also breathtaking - the stairs that lead up to the top are NOT for the faithearted! - i was quite worried taking the kids up them - my hubby atually went up backwards so our little girl was safe - up the top great views - but i have to say dangerous! - there is definatly SOMETHING here even my two children commented on that - and its not friendly so beware! - we felt like we were pushed back down the stairs - felt close presence behind us at the top which isnt nice when you have kids with you! - we then had to brave the stairs back down from the castle remains - - my hubby took our little girl down - i sent my older son down then i was left to last - as i went to step down the first step - it almost felt as though i was about to have some help! so i nearly ran down! once out and a little away my son (11) said mum i felt watched all the time in there and my daughter said she felt she saw red eyes under the old fireplace - then the big one - just as i was talking to hubby while the children were playing - i looked at the castle door which we left open - looked at hubby for a second - looked back and the door was CLOSED!!!!! there is only ONE way up and down to/from the castle - there was NOBODY else there! - as you can imagine we all started walking back to the car slightly confused - but also i found it hard not to keep looking back up there - it has presence thats for sure - a visit is highly recommended but just keep an open mind - be aware of the stairs and if you take kids - keep them close by and safe! and just remember --------- its nearly 1000 years old - but not lonely!!!!! x lisa x
