ASTONISHINGLY BAD! - quite the worst B&B / "hotel" I have ever stayed in. When we (my son and I) arrived around 7.00 pm we thought the place was closed down - not a single light on anywhere - outside or inside. A ring on the very unwelcoming main entrance door (as with many of the windows and doors it was totally unsympathetic to the style of what had once been a very attractive building) eventually brought an unsmiling Eastern European extra from a Hammer Horror movie to the Outward Opening! entrance. A long, dimly lit corridor with one piece of furniture (though some hugely impressive 6-inch ancient heating pipes arching through the floor) and strange sliding doors. Our room was just about adequate - but everywhere you look, appaling style, complete lack of taste in any of the furniture and fittings - and locked fire exits! The amount of bodged DIY building and decor has to be seen to be believed - an extension on the front ground floor between the 2 bay windows has an RSJ that has clearly been papered directly onto! First floor "bathroom" partions were single-layers of plasterboard that terminate 10 inches from the ceiling. Rotting plaster, wrinkled, peeling off wallpaper everywhere - please go there for one night just to experience the awful dreariness of the whole place! And as for the dining room furniture - unbelievable. And apparently folks come here for conferences - and TO GET MARRIED! Astonishing. It's actually very sad - the building and it's location are superb. There's great potential, but the whole place just has a desperate, tired, run down air of piss-poor cheapskate DIY maintenance and "upgrading". Worth a visit just to appreciate how awful a "hotel" can get. How do they get away with it?! Steve s.clarks@tiscali.co.uk

I do not know how this can be called a hotel. It has no reception, no breakfast was offered and the room was freezing! "En-suite" means a shower in the same room as you and a toilet to the side. However it does have nice views!
