We didn't enjoy our day at Trentham Gardens. The first issue was disabled access -- one of our party used a wheelchair. The walk around the lake is totally unsuitable for a wheelchair, despite what they claim -- gravel/shale paths, and several very steep inclines/hills. I almost lost control of the chair at one point. We eventually made it to the "Lakeside Restaurant", hoping to get lunch, but this "restaurant" was just a hut selling preoacked sandwiches. Drinks were served in paper cups ... even if you sat inside! Pottery is rare in that part of the world... Thankfully we got the boat back to the gardens on the other side of the lake, otherwise we would have been all-but stranded there. Went to the garden centre and had a disappointing meal of tough meat, tiny soft-drink portions (child-size, really), and a stale, warm sandwich. Had to ask for napkins, which were closely guarded behind the counter, and then we only got two. Despite all this, it was very expensive too. After this it was a walk around the gardens, and then to the Italian cafe, which badly needed the floor sweeping. We had to wipe our feet on the way out! They had sold out of ice-cream. Is it too difficult to look at the weather forecast and buy in enough stock for the coming day? Apparently. Maybe we can get some ice-cream at the nearby ice-cream booth? No. it's closed, despite the fact it's only 4pm. Lots of people were annoyed at this, if only because the ice-cream remained on show through the shut booth window. Tantalising close, yet so far away... Then off to the shops, few of which sold anything we either needed or wanted. Hat shop, anybody? One shop appeared to sell nothing but maps of the world. One sold children's drawing stuff, like crayons. Bizarre. The whole place felt like a Trafford Centre wannabe, and I got the impression that they wanted to part us from our money more than anything else. It's a very, very commercialised place. I don't know who ever lived at Trentham House back in the old days, but I suspect they're spinning in their graves looking at what it's become. There are many better attractions in that part of the world. Trentham Gardens might be good if you have a young family, and kids will like the monkey zoo. You'll have to pay for the experience though (one family before us in the queue paid nearly £40 just to get in!). For everybody else this place is best avoided. It promises a high-class day-out but really it's just a shopping village with pretensions. There are too many weak links in the chain. I really don't think this place will be in business much longer.

Overpriced rubbish on sale in the main building which is the 'Garden Centre' If you want to pay £100 or more for a piece of wood tacked onto a metal base then be my guest. Had dinner in the 'Italian Restaurant' received a small lasagne which was just slop in a bowl that has been microwaved, it made me feel sick. Oh and they put a small salad with it. I had a better lasagne ready meal from Asda 2 days after eating here, it was tastier and a lot bigger. Oh, and the staff all run around the centre like headless chickens with their walkie talkies on the highest volume possible - weird !! A complete rip off day out - Avoid !!

The gardens are pleasant and great fun for the children, with woodland walks, and bird watch. There is also a good play area. Unfortunately access for wheelchair users is poor in most areas, if you can propel yourself across the gravel, which is no mean feat when you get there you really have to just sit and watch the children on the playground. With a little more thought this could be improved and hopefully it will be. A tarmac path from the entrance right through the gadens and into the play area /park would be very beneficial.

Good attraction, the kids enjoyed Monkey Forest. However not good value for money and very expensive for a family day out, as you have to pay twice once to see Monkey forest and again (and more)to enter the gardens.
