Dumfriesshire home of the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensbury KT, built between 1679 and 1691 by William Douglas, 1st Duke of Queensberry.
Internationally renowned art collection. Superb French furniture, 300 year old silver chandelier, cabinets made for Louis XIV's Versailles, Meissen and Dresden porcelain, silver and tapestries. Associations with Mary Queen of Scots, Robert Bruce and Bonnie Prince Charlie.
Extensive parkland containing children's adventure woodland playground. Historical gardens now being restored to original 18th century plans. Plant Centre and restored Victorian Greenhouse. Licensed restaurant in original Castle kitchens. Craft Centre in which you can view various crafts being produced. Working Forge. Cycle Hire and Cycle Museum including a display of the history of the bicycle through the years and a replica of the first ever pedal cycle, which was invented locally. Castle gift shop. The Buccleuch Countryside Ranger Service operates within the Country Park and provides waymarked woodland walks, various cycle routes for all ages and abilities, and maintains an interpretative Visitor Centre within the Stableyard. The Rangers also provide a programme of guided walks and events throughout the year.
