Restaurants in Barbican
ndian restaurants, they are a' changin' on London Wall. Quietly, quietly Jaipur has transformed into the altogether more slick and sophisticated, Mehek. But it's the contemporary Indian food that stands out most of all. And not just to us - it is in the Top 100 Best in Britian Real Curry Restaurant Guide. Mehek's small, exclusive menu is based on real Indian food - plenty of delicate spices, no artificial colourings - presented in an European style. Heard it all before? Maybe, but the head chef is Ashok Kumar, formerly at the award-winning Tamarind, who created the menus with none other than Atul Kochhar, one of Britain's top Indian chefs and one of only two currently holding a coveted Michelin star. Beat that! We highly recommend the Boro Chingri Pardanashi (medium, hot & spicy king prawns cooked Goan Style and served in a baby coconut shell) and the Raan-e-mehek (sliced roast leg of lamb marinated in Indian spices and cooked over a gentle flame in a rich onion and tomato gravy, flavoured with nutmeg). Mehek, which means "fragrance" so the owner tells us, truly is a treat for your senses.
