Bolton Museum, Art Gallery and Aquarium is one of the largest regional art galleries in the North West, housing an impressive collection of fine and decorative art dating from the 18th to the 20th century. This includes watercolours and drawings, a prominent collection of modern British art prints, along with 20th century sculpture and contemporary ceramics. The museum has recently purchased the Thomas Moran Painting 'Nearing Camp on the Upper Colorado River' after a national campaign.

The Museum has extensive collections of Egyptology, ethnography, natural, local and industrial history, with examples of machinery and working models.

The Natural History department includes the Wildlife on your Doorstep Gallery, and an award winning, interactive Wildlife Study Centre and dinosaurs!

The art gallery has a constantly changing programme of events and exhibitions.

The aquarium is heavily involved in conservation and has a highly specialised breeding programme. It features a wide variety of species of fish from around the world, now extinct in their natural habitat.

The education department plays a prominent and important role in the Museum's success and works closely with schools and other groups, particularly in subject areas involved with the curriculum.
