Nowhere has a Lead mine being so fully or carefully restored. At Killhope Lead Mining Museum visitors can explore and experience the working and living of Victorian Mining Families. This is your opportunity to go down a real Lead Mine, Park Level Mine. Guided tours take you along the original tunnel, plodging through running water; we supply the wellingtons, a hardhat and cap lamp.

Through the Woodland walk you can explore the remains and reminders of lead mining. An observation hide, offers a unique opportunity to observe the secretive and endangered Red Squirrel. Other attractions at Killhope include the new sparkling North Pennine Mineral exhibition. A play park especially for the under 4’s. Pushchair friendly woodland trail by the Reservoir.

Even during the height of summer the mine is cool, Killhope is 1500 feet (450m) above sea level and we recommend you come dressed warmly.
It’s dark, it’s wet, its wonderful.
