Attraction in Renishaw

Renishaw Hall has been the home of the Sitwell family for over 350 years. In 1625 George Sitwell built a small H-shaped manor house to which his descendent Sitwell Sitwell, later first baronet, made vast additions in the Georgian period. He also added the stables and various follies in and around the park.

The beautiful classical Italian garden, park and lake were the creation of the eccentric Sir George Sitwell, the grandfather of the present owner. Some have called them the most romantic gardens they know, and they are among the most beautiful of their kind in the country.

Beautiful spring flowers in April are followed by carpets of bluebells in the woods and rhododendrons in May. More than a thousand roses bloom in June, the herbaceous and mixed borders peak in July and August, and many rare annuals and exotic borders flowering on through September.
