L'Enclume gastronomic restaurant with rooms is beautifully located in Cartmel, a traditional Cumbrian village, and offers a tranquil base from which to explore the Southern Lakeland.
Chef owner of L'Enclume, Simon Rogan, has developed his style of cooking to create what has become his signature, the multi-course 'taste and texture‚ menu, which uses specially sourced herbs and plants' many from the Cartmel Valley - that are the secret to the flavour and fragrance of his dishes. Dishes could include foie gras, cubism to realism, lemon cake, star anise and verjus reduction; monkfish in picada crumb, prunes and basmati, almond and lemon grass emulsion. As previously, the menu is available in introductory, intermediate and gourmand forms, each offering tasting size portions of dishes.
L'Enclume is housed in Cartmel's former smithy, which dates back to the 13th century, and retains features such as the traditional hooping wheel. The restaurant offers seven chic rooms, each individually decorated. Further accommodation is available at Bluebell House, located just 300 yards from the main building, which is a self-contained property with four luxurious double bedrooms, as well as a private dining room, and is ideal for exclusive use.
