Set on the beautiful Suffolk coast, Minsmere offers an enjoyable day out for all. Nature trails take you through a variety of habitats to the excellent birdwatching hides. Spring is a time for birdsong, including nightingales in the woods and booming bitterns in the reedbeds. In summer, you can watch breeding avocets and marsh harriers, and listen to nightjars on the heath at dusk. Autumn is excellent for migrants, and in winter, hundreds of wildfowl visit the reserve. Look out too for otters and red deer.
The visitor centre has a well-stocked shop and licensed cafe, and you can find out more about the reserve. New for 2012 is an exciting family activity area called the Wild Zone and Wild Wood Adventure. Alongside these is a new Discovery Centre which is used for field teaching and events. There are guided walks, workshops and demonstrations throughout the year, and volunteer guides are often available to help visitors.
