The Highland Museum of Childhood is located in a restored Victorian Station which once served the Highland village of Strathpeffer in its heyday as a Spa. Set in a garden and picnic area, there is easy free parking.
The Museum tells the story of childhood in the Highlands of Scotland, recording customs and traditions amongst crofters and townsfolk. Grown-ups and children alike enjoy the Museum’s award-winning video “A Century of Highland Childhood”, and the informative displays; there are hands-on activities for children.
The Museum is home to the fascinating Angela Kellie Doll Collection. Other items include children’s costume, and toys, books and games from the Victorian and Edwardian periods; more recent additions from the 1920s to the 1950s bring back memories for many.
The Museum Shop stocks gifts, traditional toys and a wide selection of books. The Museum Coffee Shop has a reputation for fine coffees and teas, home baking and freshly prepared snacks and soups.
