A temple to tequila in Bethnal Green. Evening Standard Bar of the Year 2006, Green & Red, combines an infectious passion for fine tequila with soulful Mexican food and a fantastic atmosphere. Big on wood, there's a comfortable bar and dining area upstairs; a loungey space downstairs. The menu showcases the food of Mexico's Jalisco state, home of tequila. Jaliscan cooking is typically fuss-free, home-made style food designed to share. Starters range from superb chargrilled shrimps with a roasted cherry tomato and habaņero salsa, and a zesty sea bass ceviche, to a rich main course of slow- roasted pork belly and ribs with pasilla chilli and orange salt. Regular DJs play a mix of funk, soul, rock 'n' roll, with a pinch of salsa and Mexican hip hop. Amazingly knowledgeable staff provide charming service.
