Fancy a getaway from the commotion of the city but too busy to hop on the train? TV chef, author and Caribbean-cuisine champion Patrick Williams must have had you in mind. Nestled into the centre of a park garden surrounded by mature trees, landscaped lawns and creating the feeling of being miles away from busy High Holborn lies his first solo creation, The Terrace, following on the success of his co-owned bar and restaurant, The Green. An eco-friendly building using sustainable British-grown woods and stainless steel, the structure not only has the distinction of being one of the few buildings in the UK where all the materials used are recycled or 100% recyclable but also uses design techniques to bring the outside inside. The menu takes British cuisine and gives it an unusual makeover courtesy of Williams' Caribbean touches. A traditional English breakfast is sparked to new life with breadfruit and plantain, while spiced crayfish fricassee with fried dumplings and pan seared scallops and pimento crusted lamb rump with haricot bean puree take the tastebuds on holiday. A wide-ranging list of old and new world wines will satisfy even the biggest wine lover, and 16 of them are available by the glass or carafe. Adaptable menu, spot-on service and unrivalled eco-ambience.
