BREATHTAKING LAKE VIEWS

Back in 1888, Lord Lonsdale (of boxing's Lonsdale Belt fame) was so taken by the views across Lake Windermere and the Langdale Fells that he bought Holbeck Ghyll for use as his Hunting Lodge. His idea of the perfect country residence has made a lasting impression on its style and appearance. 116 years on, the view has hardly altered at all but the house is now an hotel of outstanding character chosen in both 1998 and 2000 by the Cumbria Tourist Board as Hotel of the Year. Our congratulations go to David and Patricia Nicholson whose quest for excellence has made this charming hotel such a pleasure to visit.

The interiors are styled in the manner of Charles Rennie Mackintosh with a wealth of oak panelling and stained glass. Into this magnificence are interwoven the luxuries of a first class hotel and a connoisseur's clutter of a home; antiques, original paintings, flowers, really comfortable furniture…Success is evident in the addition of six luxury, lake view rooms in The Lodge, only 45 metres from the old house itself.

MICHELIN STAR FOOD

Part of the Holbeck experience is the Michelin Star dinner which features dishes classically prepared and artistically presented, much in the English style with a hint of France. Exciting and unusual vegetarian items are included in every course. Gourmets should go for the inclusive rate that includes dinner; they won't be disappointed.

SPA

Breathe in the pure Lake District air, be exhilarated by the 8 acres of beautiful surroundings; revitalized by the Sport and Spa facilities and treatments offered by Holbeck Ghyll, you'll soon feel wonderfully rejuvenated.
