Just when the White Hart was built at the crossroads in the centre of town is not known, the sign is a badge of the house of Lancaster and recalls the series of famous battles between 1455 and 1471, which history labels the War of the Roses. We may only guess at its earlier associations, but we know that, being situated at the junction of main highways from Oxford to Winchester and Southampton, and that from London to Exeter, passengers were accommodated at the White Hart Hotel until the arrival of their respected coaches. Whitchurch is set at the head of the Test Valley, the river rising just to the East of the town. It rises from the chalk and flows over a wide shallow gravel bed from its source through the town, where it splits and passes through 4 mills and under several bridges - from which can be seen large and numerous trout through the clear water. With fresh modern features and high ceilings, the bar has a real modern and fun atmosphere. Bringing in the traditional pub on one side with the dart board and quiz machine, we also offer the relaxing but vibrant side with its deep leather bar stools.
