Barton Upon Humber is a small historic town on the southern bank of the river with the majestic Humber Bridge. The town reaches back into history with it’s red brick buildings and it’s Medieval legacy of Merchants houses. The abundance of wildlife and daily bustle of river life can be enjoyed and explored further at the Visitors Centre with many interactive displays and activities and children’s play areas. The churches of St Peter and St Mary sit close to each other although 11th Century St Peters no longer holds services , St Mary’s church has a very ornate door and attractive bell tower. Or if the thought of Georgian and Victorian rooms, impressive work shops of a shoemaker and stone mason, together with a skeleton of an Anglo Saxon Warrior intrigues then why not visit Baysgarth House set in 30 acres. Or how about 12th Century Thornton Abbey, add the stunning Gatehouse and follow in the footsteps of Henry V111, or if that’s not enough perhaps a guinea pig village, adventure playground and somewhere to feed the fish, this can be had if you visit Elsham Hall. Barton Upon Humber has a pocket full of promises waiting to be kept.
