Camp Wild is owned and operated by Escot Ltd at Escot Park, near Ottery St Mary in glorious East Devon. The Escot Estate occupies 1100 acres of forest, farms and parkland approximately eight miles from Devon’s Jurassic Coast near Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth. The estate is an award winning venue for visitors wishing to discover more about the natural world.

The idea for a summer camp was brought over from California by Victoria Siddle-Virok, the new Escot Summer Camp Manager. Victoria worked at the Headlands Institute campus of Nature Bridge in San Francisco for six years where she taught hands on thematic environmental education to children from 5 years old to adult in outdoor and classroom settings. She taught, shared, laughed and explored with the children in one of the most bio diverse and beautiful places on earth. She led wilderness trips in Yosemite National Park (whilst unknowingly pregnant with her daughter!), climbed Mount Shasta, and sailed on the Pacific Ocean with her husband, discovering the abundance of marine life just beneath the surface. She brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this exciting new venture

Camp Wild will be running both residential camps for 8-12 year olds and day camps for 6 and 7 year olds from July 12th to August 28th 2010. Children’s accommodation will be based at our new yurt village made by Kevin North at “The Really Interesting Yurt Company” in Newton Abbott. Children will sleep in bunk beds in girl and boy sleeping pods, cook dinner with friends and enjoy a huge variety of activities which connect children to the natural world.

Some of the activities will include: Otter and wild boar feeding, the forest drop slide, fossil hunting at Charmouth beach, birds of prey, woodland games and hikes, rock pooling in Lyme Regis, art projects, fire making, stream dipping, a swamp walk, a boat trip along the Jurassic coast and a Friday night campfire and bbq. We want children to experience something unique and special. We know what adventure means to children and we understand that summer is supposed to be fun. For children, Camp Wild is pure enjoyment and an outdoor adventure. It really is as wild as it sounds.
