More Information

Welcome to the Crown House Here at The Crown House we pride ourselves on fantastically mouthwatering food, beautiful and relaxing surroundings and impeccable service. Whether you're looking for a relaxed Sunday lunch, a special celebratory meal, a weekend away or a Wedding or other special event, The Crown House will deliver everything you expect and much more. The Crown House, situated on the London to Newmarket Road, is a beautifully restored coach-house inn dating back to beyond Tudor times. An elegant listed building set in stunningly nurtured gardens in the pretty village of Great Chesterford, Essex; it is well placed for access to a large area of South East England and East Anglia. The Crown House is proud of its historic origins, with a main building pre-dating the Georgian era as well as its front wall, which has been built on the remains of the Roman walls from the original settlement of Great Chesterford. The hotel history derives as it is today, from one of the earliest coaching inns on the London to Newmarket Road and has been used as a toy factory, at the turn of the 19th Century, as well as a private residence. We like to feel that its hospitality side has always shone through. Just a few miles down the road is the historic market town of Saffron Walden, the home of the 'Saffron' spice. Here you can find a traditional market every Tuesday and Saturday as well as a weekly auction. You can enjoy the many antique shops, whilst the museum and castle are also well worth a visit.Other local attractions include Duxford Air Museum, the University City of Cambridge and the Newmarket Racecourse; Stansted Airport is also within easy reach. The Crown House is warm and friendly, catering to the needs of the businessman, tourist and local resident; it is also the perfect venue for meetings, conferences family celebrations or a romantic weekend away.
