Sawston is a large pleasant village on the banks of the River Cam, in the county of Cambridgeshire home to just over seven thousand people, and is positioned a few miles from the borders of Essex, and close to the historical city of Cambridge. The village has an interesting history that dates as far back as the Bronze Age Settlers who first came here, and the Saxons, Romans and Tudors who followed and left their mark with a pleasing mix of houses and buildings from across the centuries. At the centre of the village stands the impressive 12th Century church of St Mary's which has a tower, time it right and the melodious sound of the bells may be heard. Behind the church there is a magnificent 16th Century Tudor Mansion with hidden Priest Holes, and fine wood panelling. The rich Industrial past led to the expansion of the village with Paper Milling and its Leather Factories leading the way, today's visitors will discover a wealth of shops to keep the hungriest of shoppers satisfied, pubs to try, and restaurants with tempting morsels on offer, or there is always the chance to stroll along the river bank of the Cam where Ducks, and Kingfishers are the order of the day.
