Cranfield is a village in the County of Bedfordshire that dates back to Saxon times, positioned on a hill and ringed by woodland, home to six thousand people. The church of St Peter and St Paul dates back to Norman times and is an interesting interlude. A visit to the remains of 17th Century Houghton House will have artists rummaging for their brushes as the views are spectacular, or there is always the breath stealing beauty of Woburn Abbey. Set within 3,000 acres of Deer Park, the Abbey stands on a site that was first occupied by Cistercian monks. The opulence and fine treasures on display are hard to beat, with paintings by Van Dyck, Gainsborough and Reynolds, fine furniture and a history of past visitors that include Elizabeth 1, Charles 1, and Queen Victoria. After the tour of the Abbey what better way of seeing the Animal Kingdom at close quarters than a visit to the Safari Park, if that’s not enough activity, pack your golf clubs for a round or two at the championship Golf Course. For a truly enchanting experience Bromham Mill has to be it, a stunning Mill sits at waters edge still producing flour today. Set within seven acres of water meadows where the thought of a pic nic will entice her visitor to linger, time it right and enjoy Morris dancing, apple Bobbing, puppet making or even a teddy bears pic-nic…….perfect.
