Onich is a small village in the Highlands of Scotland situated eight miles south of Fort William and midway between Glencoe and Ben Nevis; the highest mountain in the UK. Onich is a picturesque village with the mountains of Glencoe to the east and the Isle of Mull to the West. The remote village is set on the east shore of Loch Linnhe, amongst beautiful wooded countryside abundant with wildlife and ideal for walking, nature-watching and for a visit to the local waterfall. Onich is a tranquil base for touring the Highlands, it has a hotel, holiday-centre, sea-food café, a post-office and the petrol station and fishing facilities are available on the Loch. There are more hotels, B&B’s and self-catering cottages in the surrounding area. Attractions include the out-door activity centre at Inchree, with a restaurant and facilities for canyoning, climbing, mountain-biking and forest-trails, the Ski Centres at Aonoch Mor and Glencoe for skiing, snowboarding and sledging and the Ice Factor in Kinlochleven has an indoor climbing-wall with sauna facilities. Nearby is Fort William, a major tourist centre marking the end of the West Highland Way; a footpath stretching 92 miles across the Scottish Highlands, at the entrance to the Great Glen with the Great Glen Way a pathway 73 miles long heading from Fort William to Inverness.
