Jarrow is an historical town on the banks of the River Tyne in North East England home to 27 thousand people. It shares it’s intriguing past from Roman times through to the Jarrow Crusade in the ‘30’s. With historical buildings like St Paul’s church part of which dates back to the 7th Century, walk round to the back of the church and the remnants of a Medieval Monastery that was home to the Venerable Bede can be seen. Or perhaps the living Museum of Bede’s World will give an insight into his life. If wandering around a museum is a must South Shields Museum and Art Gallery won’t fail to impress with fabulous exhibits telling the interesting story of Catherine Cookson. For Railway Buffs it has to be Stephenson’s Railway Museum home to Steam Locomotives, and ‘Billy’ George Stephenson’s locomotive, or maybe the offer of over 200 aircraft will tempt a visit to the North East Aircraft Museum. For all things fishy Blue Reef Aquarium takes her visitor on an underwater journey of discovery with it's spectacular underwater tunnel. Or for a little retail therapy there is the Royal Quays Shopping Centre, or perhaps the thrill of Wet ‘n’ Wild opposite will be one temptation hard to resist.
