The village of Leintwardine can trace its roots back to Roman times, all around the site of the present town there is evidence of Roman forts indicating the commanding position that Leintwardine held in its location in the Teme Valley. The village of Leintwardine is situated on the Shropshire / Herefordshire border in the Welsh Marches just off the A4113 between Ludlow and Knighton amongst the rolling hills for which the area is famous. It is an area of outstanding beauty, steeped in history with the ruins of many castles in the area. For those who enjoy walking in such picturesque scenery there is the Offas Dyke part of which runs close by. For those more interested in local history then St Mary Magdalene Church, Leintwardine is worth a visit, overlooking the town the church foundations are said to be Saxon whilst the main part of the church is 13th and 14th century. A short stroll down Church Street and Watling Street demonstrates how popular this location has always been with its examples of 17th century architecture still in evidence today. Today Leintwardine, in keeping with past times, is still a popular place to live and for the casual visitor the surrounding scenery and village are much appreciated as a reminder of its historic past.
