First Recorded UFO in Britain

Dorset The 8th of December 1733 AD

It was not until 1952 that the very term UFO came into common parlance, but the first occasion on which such an object was recorded in Britain was way back in 1733.
During a warm and bright day for the time of year one James Cracker of Fleet in Dorset while heading homewards supposedly saw a disc: “Like burnished, or new-washed silver,” shoot across the sky, though he insisted it was like no shooting star that he had ever seen, darting across his line of sight in an instant, then rapidly appearing again.
He further claimed that another gentleman had seen the same phenomenon some 15 miles away.
In the second half of the last century such sightings became almost commonplace in certain hotspots, the most celebrated perhaps being Warminster , Bonnybridge, and Bacup , though just about every town in the land will have a tale or two of strange sightings.
