Elizabeth II becomes longest serving Monarch

The 9th of September 2015 AD

At 5:30 pm GMT Queen Elizabeth II becomes Britain's longest-reigning monarch when she passes the record set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.

She will have reigned for 63 years and seven months, since the death of her father George VI on 6th February 1952. This is a record unlikely to be broken in any of you readers lifetimes as her son Charles is already in his 60's and his son William already in his 30's.

An achievement beyond compare then and one that makes us doff our caps and say "Well done Ma'am"
