Born 1888 St Louis, Missouri. Died 1965 - Poet and dramatist.


Born in America, moved to England in 1914, and published his first volume of verse Prufrock and Other Observations in 1917. Later came The Waste Land (1922), The Hollow (1925) and Four Quartets (1944). His children’s verse Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats (1939) was adapted into the musical Cats (1981). In 1948 he received the Order of Merit and was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.
