Born 1963. Died 1995 in a blizzard on K2 - English mountaineer.


One of the best female mountain climbers of her time, she was the first woman to scale Mount Everest unassisted in 1995. She was the first climber to scale all the Great North Faces of the Alps in a single season, made even more difficult as she was pregnant at the time. In 1995 she attempted to climb the three highest mountains in the world, but after reaching the summit of K2, was killed in a violent storm on her return.
