Born 1943 - Radio and television presenter.

Left school to become a teenage reporter on the Penarth Times. Joined a commercial television channel based in Wales before going to the BBC. Worked as a foreign correspondent in the United States and Africa before becoming a presenter of the BBC's Nine O'Clock News in the 1980s. Has been a presenter BBC Radio 4’s Today programme since 1987. Also presented Panorama. Named Journalist of the Year in February 2000.
