Elaine Paige is often described as the ‘first lady of musicals’ in this country. Her professional career began in 1964, and took in minor roles in shows like Hair and The Boyfriend before she won the starring role in Evita in 1978. Since that time she has been centre stage in new musicals like Chess and Cats, and in revivals of classic productions. Paige (her stage name – she was originally Elaine Bickerstaff) has made more than 20 solo albums, and had a number 1 single (with Barbara Dickson) with I Know Him So Well.
