Robin Philipson
- Favourite Briton.

Born in Broughton-in-Furness, Lancashire
Born in 1916
Died in 1992

Though born in Lancashire Philipson is forever associated with art in Scotland, where his family moved when he was 14. He studied at Edinburgh College of Art before serving with the King’s Own Borderers in Burma and India during WWII, returning to his alma mater to teach (and eventually become Head of the Drawing and Painting Department from 1960 to 1982). His figurative paintings employed bold lines and colour, and made great use of impasto, and it is no coincidence that his paintings of Amiens cathedral and those by Monet of Rouen are often talked of together.
