Harold Evans has had a long and distinguished career as a reporter, newspaper editor (he was at the helm of The Sunday Times for 14 years, having previously edited The Northern Echo), and latterly writer (plus for a time teaching at Duke University). Having seen American investigative journalism close-to when studying in the USA he pioneered the approach in Britain, most famously winning justice and compensation for thalidomide victim
