Died on 15th of May 1847

Born 1775. Died 1847 in Genoa, Italy - Irish political leader.

Studied law and built up successful practice. Organised the Catholic Association in 1823, moving to repeal laws that penalised Catholics because of their religion. Became MP for Dublin in 1832. Founded the Repeal Association but members introduced revolutionary doctrines to which he was opposed, led to split in ranks. Suffering from ill health, he set off for Rome but died in Genoa.
