Born1816 Kassel, Germany. Died 1899 - British journalist, founder of the first newsagency.

Originally Israel Beer Josaphat, changed his name to Reuter in 1844. In 1849 he formed an organisation for transmitting commercial news by telegraph and pigeon post. Moved the headquarters of the Reuters News Agency to London in 1851.
