Born 1879. Died 1959 - English physicist and Nobel Prize winner.

Educated at Cambridge. At Cavendish Laboratory began his famous work on thermionics, the phenomenon of the emission of electricity from hot bodies. Awarded Nobel Prize for physics in 1928.
