Born 1894. Died 1978 - English cricketeer.

First class debut in 1919, Test debut in 1924. Formed successful opening partnership with Jack Hobbs. Scored 16 test centuries in 54 matches. Scored 149 first class centuries and scored over 1,000 runs in a season 24 times. Retired in 1945.
