This is a friendly and informal traditional pub, serving Greene King, sited near to the pretty village green of Stoke-by-Clare. The publicans are most welcoming. The gardens are charming, with a lovely orchard overlooking horse paddocks. This a pub that welcomes passers by but also has a good following of locals and consequently a great atmosphere. The food is home cooked by the landlord and the vegetables are superb - he is an ex greengrocer and knows his onions. You are even asked how you like them to be cooked! It's best to ring ahead to check availability. They sometimes have functions which can limit space for diners. If you don't want a full meal the bar snacks - baguettes and chips are great value.
