This is the question driving this year’s Yorkshire Festival of Story. You are invited to explore it with us.

YFOS 23 will use epic stories, fairy tales, theatre, and song to explore how we speak truth to power and how we can achieve justice through stories. We’re thrilled to welcome a diverse and eclectic mix of storytellers, authors, artists, film directors, singers, and even an explorer to ignite the conversation and bring new perspectives on truth, power, and justice.

Headliners include Professor Jack Zipes, the critically acclaimed Marina Warner, Reg Meuross, Debs Newbold, Nesta Gomez, Miss Nobodies, Tariq Mehmood, Alan Donegan, Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman, Sudha Bhuchar, Amy White, and our very own Sita Brand. There are over 40 live events to choose from, both in-person and online.

The children and families programme for schools and families is jam-packed with incredible events too! Our Children’s Story Competition judge, Atinuke, is reading your short stories. And don’t miss events with the Travelling Shadow Puppet Theatre, Gav Cross, Usifu Jalloh, Pippi Longstocking, and M.G. Vaciago.
