Leny House is a Listed Building of special architectural and historic interest which has seen extensive restoration work during 1998-99. Built in 1513 as a fortified house after the original Leny Castle burned down, strengthened in 1691, extended in 1845 then restored and upgraded in 1998.

The house has featured in much of the history of Callander, particularly during Bonnie Prince Charlie's expedition to seize the throne. It was used for arms storage and clandestine meetings and was first used for Bed & Breakfast by the Jacobites when marching to the Rebellion in 1745!

Leny House has been extensively refurbished inside and out. A private driveway through paddocks containing sheep, cattle and angora goats, leads to ample parking in front of an imposing entrance tower. This architectural feature with its massive curved door was first used here at Leny House and was later repeated in other Scottish castles and became known as the Leny Entrance Tower. Because of the rural setting we regret that we cannot accommodate dogs at Leny Estate.

A chandelier-lit hallway with grand piano, adjoins the comfortable, relaxing drawing room which offers views over lawns to the mountains and glens of The Trossachs. The impressive staircase leads to the spacious, comfortable Victorian bedrooms some of which have 4 poster beds and the original cast iron fireplaces in working order.

Snuggle by the open fire, sip a dram of your favourite tipple and enjoy a cosy end to the day. All the bedrooms have an en-suite bath or shower room that is fitted to the highest standard in Victorian style complemented by thick, fluffy towels to wrap yourself in.

Antiques, tapestries, Victorian prints and baronial surroundings complete the atmosphere of the house set in grounds with spectacular rhododendrons from the Himalayas, ancient trees and colourful azaleas. The Gallows Hill, used from the 6th. century and known as the Knoll of Justice is still visible in the grounds.

While enjoying a full Scottish breakfast plan your day which may include for the intrepid visitor exploring our own private glen with its abundant wildlife (boots and machete recommended). We can advise you on your plans and will help you to remember your Scottish holiday. You'll wish you had planned to stay longer.
