For a day out in the City of Discovery that's informative, enthralling and great fun for all the family, visit two of Scotland's most exciting visitor attractions: Discovery Point and Verdant Works.

With so much invested in trade by sea, it was natural that Dundee should become a major centre of shipbuilding. The city's shipbuilder's greatest achievement was undoubtedly RRS Discovery, the ship that carried Captain Scott on his voyage to Antarctica.

Built on the lines of a whaler but specially strengthened to withstand the crushing pack-ice, Discovery was probably the strongest ship afloat in her day.

In 1986, the Discovery came home to Dundee to a hero's welcome. Now permanently berthed at Discovery Point, one of Scotland's most exciting and innovative visitor attractions.

Walk in the footsteps of Captain Scott and his crew, experience the excitement and adventure of their Antarctic odyssey, even perform your own scientific experiments! And explore the Discovery herself. See for yourself the conditions that the great explorers had to endure on their epic voyage. It's the next best thing to being there.

The story of Dundee and the story of jute are inseparable. The city's importance as a port and centre of manufacturing and export is bound up with jute, an industry that employed 50,000 in the city at its peak. By the end of the 19th century, Dundee single-handedly supplied all of the global demand for jute products.

The story of jute is brought vividly to life at Verdant Works, Europe's premier Industrial Heritage Centre. With a stunning range of audio-visual displays, computer interactives, dramatic sound and light effects and original machinery lovingly restored to working condition, you can experience for yourself what life was like for a worker in the mill. It's an experience you will never forget.
