John Bright

Born 1811. Died 1889 - English orator and radical politician.
Son of Quaker cotton-spinner. Became MP for Durham in 1843. Opposed the Corn Laws until they were repealed. Denounced the Crimean War. Seconded the motion which led to overthrow of Palmerston’s government. Retired from Gladstone ministry in 1882.
