Born 1576. Died 1634 - English dramatist and satirist.


Son of lawyer and Italian mother. Studied law at the Middle Temple. First work was The Metamorphosis of Pygmalion’s Image. Began to write for theatre in 1599. The Malcontent (1604) was dedicated to Ben Johnson. Gave up playwriting and took up orders in 1609, clergyman at Christchurch, Hampshire.
