One of the original gastro-pubs, the Peasant has a beautiful first floor restaurant as well as a sensational ground floor bar. The restaurant boasts soaring ceilings and huge windows looking out over Clerkenwell and the City University. The conservatory seats up to 18 and during the summer months the roof terrace takes up to 14. What with the mosaic floors and period features of the ground floor bar, the Peasant makes a perfect destination for the many local creatives, journos, architects and city folk alike, not to mention those heading for Sadler's Wells - only a few minutes away. Changes have included a much improved restaurant menu and a wine list which has lead to it being rated among the top twenty gastro-pubs in London by the Independent on Sunday. Try the Mozambique jumbo prawns with rocket & tomato salad, the Marinated beef fillet with potato gratin or the baked aubergine steaks with sweet red onion and pine nuts. Real ale, draught and bottled continental beers and the all-day mezze menu are available in the bar. Terrific vegetarian options.
