Golf Clubs in Wick
Founded in 1870 and located just 3 miles North of Wick in the Highlands of
Scotland, this beautiful course comes highly recommended by many a player,
including Ronan Rafferty. To find Wick Golf Course, one must follow the main
road out of Wick for John O'Groats to arrive at the turn off for Reiss Sands.
The club boasts a new £250,000 clubhouse. Opened in 1994, it is one of the
best in the north, offering warm hospitality and spectacular views out over
the course and coastline. The club house can also be hired for private
functions, such as birthday parties, weddings and engagements etc. Catering
can be arranged via the secretary.
There are few bunkers on the course, but a crafty use of ditches and some
gentle doglegs makes the round very rewarding. Captain John Hunter
recommends two holes in particular; the fifth and the twelfth. The fifth
hole measures 423 yards with a ditch crossing the fairway 250 yards from the
tee, whilst the twelfth is over 400 yards in length, with the drive being
the important shot to set up a second shot to a green with a narrow entrance
of a bunker on the right, and a protruding mound on the left.
The club is host to a number of open competitions.
