Born 1788. Died 1827 - Scottish explorer.


Went to sea at 13. In 1821 sent with Dixon Denham to discover the source of the Niger, expedition was unsuccessful. Set off again in 1825 and though he reached Sokoto he was detained by the Sultan and died.
