Born 1922. Died 1985 - English poet, librarian and jazz critic.


Early poems appeared in anthology Poetry from Oxford in wartime (1944) and The North Ship (1945). His Collected Poems published posthumously in 1988 became a bestseller. Published two novels, essays and edited The Oxford Book of Twentieth Century English Verse.
