Saggart is a picturesque village on the extreme south-west outskirts of Dublin city. A heritage location overlooked by the dramatic Dublin Mountains, Saggart is known for its ancient monuments including megalithic standing stones and a Celtic Pilgrim's Stone in the local graveyard, dating back to the 10th Century. A scenic trail guides visitors round all the fascinating historic sights. However, the village has recently become more famous for the modern amenities that surround it. The Citywest Hotel and Golf Resort is a huge draw. Ensconced in acres of woodland, it boasts two splendid golf courses, international conference facilities, a state-of-the-art leisure club and top-flight dining. Another neighbour is the Citywest Business Campus, a major business technology park set in pleasantly landscaped grounds, also incorporating shops and restaurants. It's perhaps unsurprising that some expensive luxury housing developments - gated communities, townhouses and American-style apartments, lofts and duplexes - have started appearing around the fringes of these leading visitor attractions. Saggart itself is a convenient base for travellers wishing to explore the idyllic Irish countryside, the myriad delights of Dublin city, and the nearby suburb of Tallaght, which provides good shopping, arts, culture, sports and a wonderful wildfowl centre in Tymon Park.
