Unusual and Unique places to stay in Britain

How to summarise what is on offer from these unique accommodation choices? It may be easiest to say what they are most certainly not: identikit, lookalike, predictable, unimaginative and forgettable. The clue of course is the word unique.
Browse these pages and you’ll find places ranging from absolutely up-to-the-minute to those with a millennium of history behind them; from huge sprawling stately homes on great estates to tiny little barns on working farms; places on land or on the water; cottages that once served village trades and rooms in buildings that still serve our universities; pieds-a-terre in city centres, and getaways in remote rural corners.
Days off are precious, and breaks should stick in the memory. In 20 years time it would be nice for your children to remind you of that time you spent at... and then they may even finally remember to say thanks for taking them! The structure in which you actually stay is not of course everything, but if it fires the imagination, or makes you smile, or feel instantly away from the 9-to-5, then it’s a good start.
We think just browsing these pages will give you some great ideas, and staying at the places they reveal give you some great times.

When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him. - Jonathan Swift
