Devon Reports

Brendon, Devon

Review of Brendon by Jerry Caterham on December 21st, 2006
Wow, The Brendon Valley - such stunning scenery. Beautiful, peaceful - a must for artists and walkers. You can walk south along the valley which takes one up the pretty "Doone" valley where RD Blackmore set his novel and/or North following the East Lyn River through Rockford and on to Watersmeet where there is a super National Trust tea room. We visited the area in the summer and stayed at a lovely little Inn - The Rockford Inn at Rockford, a small hamlet close to Brendon. I can recommend this place for its comfy accommodation, great food and such friendly hosts. They didn't mind us having the dog stay in our room either which makes a refreshing change from other places we have stayed at. Our room overlooked the river and this was all one could hear through the night - not a car horn to be heard!! Lunch by the river and then a stroll along the river bank is a must. I think this could just be one of the most lovely places in England I have visited. If your going to North Devon and Exmoor, don't miss the Brendon Valley - you wont be disappointed!
