Visited the Three Horseshoes on the 5th April with a group of friends after a walking trip. I can`t review the food because the service was absolutely dire. The bar couldn`t be considered busy by any stretch of the imagination, but despite waiting at the food counter for several minutes the staff declined to even acknowledge our existance. Finally we were told that we should have been waiting at the bar, and we had the "wrong" menu. No effort to provide the correct menu. It was exactly as another poster has stated - our presence within was treated as a total inconvienence by the staff.

Very disappointed! Great location & plenty of well maintained outdoor seating space but the carvery was very poor. 2 very thinly sliced pieces of meat served with your choice of stone cold tasteless vegetables & luke warm gravy...heat lamps aren't up to scratch. I would advise not to visit on a Sunday simply because the choice of food becomes extremely limited (carvery only). On a good point the staff were ok snd the decor good. I won't be dining at the weekend again. Good luck

Went to a murder mystery night and stayed over in Hotel at the three horseshoes, the rooms were of a higher standard then that of 5* accomedation we have stayed elsewhere, well worth the money, well impressed that we will be returning again as we have been in the past. The theme was very well presented and the food of very high standard, the veg was fresh, not fozen as well as catered for vegetarians. The meat choice was first class, and cooked as you wanted it. the real ale was also well served. The breakfast was one of the nest I have been served with at any hotels that I have visited and set you up for the day. All in all, one of the best, friendliest, pubs/hotels we have visited in a long while. well worth a visit as some of these reviews don.t give them their just deserves.

In summary: very poor service, vastly overpriced food, and bad beer. Do not give this establishment your custom or your money, as there are plenty of alternatives further on the A53 to Buxton. The manager poured 2 pints of Okells guest beer, which didn't settle. When asked to change them, she laughably claimed that it should stay cloudy, and that the brewery had visited and confirmed its appearance. Very noble of them to fly over from the Isle of Man to put her mind at ease! Apparently, it should also have a vinegary tinge. When pressed, she very grudgingly changed it for a half-decent pint of Pedigree. This manner and unwillingness to actually be friendly and helpful to customers was in the context of a bar and food order of over £60. We got the impression that our presence was actually an inconvenience for her, or maybe she is naturally unsuited to the licence trade? The sandwiches and paninis were very basic (cheese and ham was the highpoint), but priced at £5.50-£6.00, they were worth half that. The self-service salad that came with the sandwiches was old and tired. The chips were OK, but ruining pre-prepared deep-fries would have taken extraordinary ineptitude. The setting itself was reasonable outside (other than the fumes of cars adjacent to the tables), but inside the bar area was very gloomy. The owners apparently have plans to extend the facilities, as evidenced by the building work, but the overwhelming impression is of business goals far outweighing customer consideration and quality.

I didn't see the signs for Royston Vasey! This hotel and restaurant we had enjoyed staying in 5 years ago and so we picked it for my mother to celebrate her 70th birthday weekend. My mother booked a table for 40 people for lunch. We stayed 3 days and ate all our meals there. However, we weren't allowed to book a table in the restaurant as it was fully booked. We couldn't make a reservation for 10 people in the carvery and had to take pot luck if we could get a table although we were the only guests staying in all their rooms!! The staff including manager were unhelpful and rude. We remained polite as we didn't want to spoil my mother's birthday treat. But after my mother had paid for lunch for 40 people and all their rooms for 2 nights they wouldn't call a taxi for us to the station! And when they suggested we used the phone book and the pay phone was when we all insisted they called one. They didn't have a number!! Rude, unhelpful and slow service. Food was ok actually but all was spoilt by there attitude and beware this is a place for 'locals' as the staff also seem to dominate the bar in there spare time too!!
