To celebrate fifty years of marriage my parents booked the hotel. They were assured that it would be a day to remember - it certainly was. However, the success was not due to the hotel, in fact it was a success despite the hotel's incompetence and the unfeeling rudeness of the owner. There were sixty guests, including people from Wales and Sweden and others who had travelled some distance. We had pre-selected our meals so there were no last minute orders. There were a catalogue of errors - service took nearly three hours (my mum was the last to get her main course) there were no vegetables for most on the top table, no potatoes were served. The wine which had been ordered was not served. There were other errors and omissions-too many to mention. In discussions with the management it was clear that there was no communication and staff seemed to be very poorly trained and were very few in number (the chef had to work behind the bar!). They adopted a less than helpful attitude (as you can guess this is a euphamism!). The last straw came when we (My brother and sister) we invited to speak to the owner. He was less than sympathetic and responded our wish that our parents be treated with respect with contempt. It was difficult to believe the attitude of someone in the hospitality business who did not seem to understand that he should have taken the initiative and apologised to my parents for the failing to live up to the promises made. There is another web site which proclaims the hotel has the old fashioned virtues of service, hospitality and welcome. These three virtues are sadly lacking under the present ownership. We've enjoyed family gatherings at the hotel in previous years and the service has always been first class. The 'new' owner does not seem to have carried on in the same vein. The hotel has a lot going for it - you would not find a finer dining room in the country - the sea views are superb. If only the organisation could match it. This is not a 3 star hotel - I've checked with Weston Tourist office, as far as they are concerned the hotel has no rating either from national bodies or the local hoteliers association.

I attended my parents Golden Wedding Celebration last week. They were promised countless things by the current mangement with regards to the food and service. The food was late, cold, with only half of the food being served. The wine which was ordered was forgotten and hence arrived with the desert course. The hotsl were provided with the entire menu choices for the sixty guests 2 wks prior to the event and they still served the last main meal at 4o'lcok, when we sat down to eat at 1pm.On consultation with the current owners/management there was no apology, leaving my Father to apologise to his guests during his after dinner speech.I am appauled that people are allowed to get away with this level of customer service.
